Arlington, VA, July 24, 2006 - Greg Merrill, Chair of the NOWCC Board of Directors, today announced that Larry E. Anderson, NOWCC’s President, has informed the Board of his planned retirement from NOWCC, to be effective December 1, 2006.

Anderson began working with the SEE Program in June of 1984 as Coordinator of Special Programs for AARP. In October of 1989 he was promoted to Director of the Senior Environmental Employment Program (SEE) Department housed with the AARP Foundation in Washington, DC. As part of an organization-wide strategic business redirection, the AARP Foundation phased out it’s sponsorship of the EPA-funded SEE Program in 1997. Anderson was committed to keeping the program intact and the 900 participants working. He created NOWCC in the fall of 1997 and became its President and Chief Executive Officer. With the assistance of AARP and EPA, he was able to successfully transition the on-going AARP SEE Program to NOWCC. Since NOWCC’s beginning, he has strengthened NOWCC’s leadership of the SEE Program and has introduced the SEE Program concept to other federal agencies.

78 million healthy and willing-to-work baby-boomers will reach the traditional retirement age of 65 in 2011, just five years away. As the American workforce continues to age, and enough young workers will be in short supply, Anderson has positioned NOWCC to serve as a leading organization in helping business and government to tap the vast resource of skills and talent in America’s experienced workers to keep our national economy vital and growing. NOWCC is an important voice in encouraging employers to develop policies and practices that are attractive and user-friendly to experienced workers as they transition to an older workforce.

Anderson has attracted a capable and committed Board of Directors. He has encouraged them to lead and support NOWCC and the SEE Program through his planned departure as stated in his letter of resignation; "I encourage you to search for, and select, the most able leader that you can find to keep a steady hand on the wheel of this important vessel that carries the hopes and dreams of us all among its cargo." "Much rides on the decisions you will make as a Board in the weeks and months immediately ahead. I find peace and comfort in knowing that you are in charge at this critical hour."

As Larry prepares for his departure on December 1st, he shares these heartfelt words, "I want to see NOWCC continue into perpetuity, and to enjoy the growth and success it so well deserves. The legacy that I hope to leave is to be thought of as a leader who came along at the right time..." "You have my deepest appreciation for affording me the opportunity to lead this great organization for these past nine years."
