Enrollee Spotlight

Level 3 SEE Enrollee, Linda Perez, provides technical and administrative support to the EPA Office of Radiation & Indoor Environments National laboratory (R& IE) in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Linda supports the R&IE Lab by processing and tracking essential deliveries, coordinating room reservations, and assuring that all visitors are properly checked-in using the EPA system, Passage Point.    

Passage Point is a badging software system that was implemented among EPA offices nationally in 2006.   Linda mastered the program and is able to properly and efficiently log guests into the system and provide them with the required identification to access the buildings.  She generates personalized identification cards that contain the EPA logo, picture and contact information of the guest, and the date of the visit.  This information is stored in the Passage Point system where Linda can search for past visitors and prepare for returning visitors.

Additionally, Linda prepares and tracks the shipment of air calibration equipment from the R&IE Lab.  This unique and specialized equipment gets shipped to scientists all over the world.  The boxes require very specific and detailed packing slips which Linda is now an expert on preparing.

Linda moved to Las Vegas from Honolulu, Hawaii where she worked in payroll at a civil engineering firm.  Prior to working with the SEE Program, she worked in retail and at the Las Vegas casino, New York New York.   When the casino was cutting back hours, she took a new position in the Food and Beverage Accounting Department at the Excaliber Hotel Casino.  Linda enjoyed the work but the hours were long and inconsistent. She constantly had to switch days so that she could participate in hobbies and activities over the weekends. 

When Linda was offered the position at the R& IE Lab, she was grateful to be working a steady, 40 hour/week job with weekends and holidays off, “my prayers were answered.  I got a job with no stress, no deadlines and no worries about switching days or hours to go to Choir Practice and Church on Sundays,” says Linda.   Additionally, she enjoys the people she works with at the Lab, “this is my 2nd home.  When I first started working here, everyone made me feel very comfortable.  Help is right around the corner when needed.”
