Mr. Joseph Wyche was enrolled in 1997 to help direct and support the arrangements to move the EPA’s Office of Emergency Management from its location at the Waterside Mall office complex across town to EPA’s new facility on the Federal Triangle.  He did such a good job that the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response arranged to “borrow” his services and Mr. Wyche coordinated the move of that entire office too.

After that move, the Office of Emergency Management continued his service to work with facilities and the Emergency Management staff.  His responsibilities for the office are numerous, ranging from ensuring offices are set up for new staff to troubling shooting office equipment to working with vendors to setting up vending machines in the employee lounge.  If anything needs to be moved, cleaned or fixed he arranges for it to get done.  Everyone in the office knows to contact him with any problem and he can get things done throughout the facilities because they know they, like the staff at Emergency Management, only have to deal with one person.   

Through his commitment, drive and exposure across the agency Mr. Wyche has become one of the most visible persons at EPA’s Headquarters.  

Of particular note are his efforts in the aftermath of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.  He was deployed to New Orleans three times to work at the EPA Incident Command Post (ICP) in Metairie, LA.  His work days in the logistics section as a Shipping and Receiving Manager were 12 hours long, seven days a week.  For his efforts, Mr. Wyche received a special award from EPA.     

Mr. Wyche retired from the United States Air Force following twenty-seven years of service.  Before joining the SEE Program he worked in several positions in the greater Washington, DC area, including   the Center for Naval Analyses where he processing classified and unclassified mail, facility security, responding to intrusion alarms, fire alarms;  he even operated the office shuttle.  Mr. Wyche also worked as the Building Manger Coordinator for Dyncorp, a contracting firm providing services to federal agencies in Washington, DC.  There he dealt with office relocations, space allocations, office structures, furniture lay-outs, telecommunication equipment needs, inventory, tape back-ups, credit cards, purchase requests for supplies and equipment among other tasks.  The list of logistical responsibilities he performed goes on. 

His extensive experience proved a perfect fit the work he does with EPA.
