Public Water Systems Specialist

Wage/Hr: $12.41 Hours/Week: 40 Minimum Age: 55
Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Science, Hydrology OR Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in operation and maintenance of public water systems.

  • The ability to perform sanitary surveys and provide technical assistance at public water systems. Must have a valid drivers license and access to privetly owned vehicle.
  • Experience required with Windows, Facsimile, Copying Machine, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Dbase III/IV
  • Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS)
Duties:

Assist with the direct implementation of the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations in Wyoming and tribal lands. Assist with the Total Coliform Rule and other Rules as necessary; SDWIS database operations; performing sanitary surveys at public water systems, providing technical and emergency assistance, and training to operators of public water systems.

  • Provide entry of public water systems compliance data into Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) database, determine compliance with National Primary Drinking Water Regulations, generate reports showing compliance information, and/or other information as requested.    40%
  • Notify public water systems of non-compliance and provide follow-up technical assistance and information to water systems to allow them to return to compliance.    25%
  • Perform sanitary surveys of public water systems and technical assistance visits. Prepare standard reports of findings.    20%
  • Investigate and document information in support of drinking water direct implementation program compliance and enforcement actions.    10%
  • Other duties as assigned.    5%

Other:
  • Training will be provided as new rules are implemented.
  • Access to a privately owned vehicle: A privately owned vehicle is required on a routine basis to travel within Region 8 EPA (reimbursed for mileage).
  • Overnight travel: 1-2 nights, approximately 1-2 times per year
  • Air travel anticipated: 1-2 days approximately 1-2 times per year.
  • Rental cars: A rental car may be required if other forms of transportation are not available.
