Public Water Systems/Sanitary Survey Specialist

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Sciences, Hydrology. OR Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in operation and maintenance of public water systems (experience preferred over Degree).

  • Ability to perform sanitary surveys and provide technical assistance at public water systems. Must have a valid driver's license and access to a privately owned vehicle. Previous experience with diverse minority cultures, preferably tribal communities. Ability to work independently or within a team environment. Skills in problem solving and conflict management highly desirable.
  • Experience required with Windows, Facsimile, Copying Machine, MS Word, MS Excel
Duties:

Please note: we are accepting applications from throughout the state of Montana. Hours are flexible (24-40 hours/week). Assist with the direct implementation of the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations in Indian Country and Northern Wyoming.

  • Provide technical assistance to public water systems. Provide reports of the assistance to EPA Region 8. Provide emergency assistance to public water systems as required by the Drinking Water Program. Support drinking water direct implementation program compliance and enforcement actions, including on site investigations as necessary.    30%
  • Provide on-site training, for a variety of constituents, particularly aboout Lead, Copper, SOC's, IOC's, VOC's, and assistance with reporting to EPA and notifying the public    30%
  • Perform sanitary surveys at pubilc water systems. Prepare reports as appropriate    20%
  • Provide training to operators of public water systems as necessary. Conduct presentations on a variety of subjects related to public water systems as appropriate.    10%
  • Perform microscopic particulate analysis (MPA) at public water systems that might be ground water under the direct influence of surface water. Provide reports of the completed samples analysis.    5%
  • Other duties as assigned.    5%

Other:
  • Training will be provided as new rules are implemented.
  • Access to a privately owned vehicle: A privately owned vehicle is required on a routine basis to travel to public water systems within Region 8. Enrollee will be reimbursed for mileage (based on GSA rate).
  • Overnight travel: Some travel required.
  • Rental cars: Rental car may be required 5-10 days/month if other forms of transportation are not available.
