Over 50 Crowd Turns to Social Networking Sites

Social media symbolsMore and more, those over age 50 are abandoning the coffee klatch in favor of the computer.  According to Joshua Brockman of NPR, there has been a considerable increase in the use of social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter by older people.  Although varying statistics are cited in his article, it is estimated that the numbers have doubled in the last year.  AARP's senior adviser for social communications, Tammie Gordon, states that approximately 9 million of us were using Facebook one year ago while today that number is 19 million.  To find out more about who is using which online networking sites, go to http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129475268
