Randy Kimble
ACES Enrollee

Randy Kimble has been a soil conservationist in the NOWCC ACES program in the Hazlehurst Field Office, Copiah County, Mississippi, since February of 2009; but he has been in the “People” business since 1978.

Randy was Mayor of Hazlehurst, Mississippi for 20 years and prior to that, served as a Justice Court Judge and a Municipal Judge in Hazlehurst. He has been owner of a Napa auto parts store; he was a Scout Master for 16 years and he even taught school for a while in Pascagoula, Mississippi.  He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Randy’s campaign for re-election as Mayor was affected by a series of personal life events including an emergency health crisis with his oldest son who was attending Ole Miss at the time and the death of his mother-in-law.  Still, he only lost by 40 votes.

Firmly believing that God has a hand in everything, Randy and his wife Janet realized it was time to start something new.  They sold the Napa auto parts store they owned and moved to the country to remodel Janet’s late mother’s house which is located on a farm.

Although Randy was enjoying his retirement and had plenty to do on the farm, he still missed his personal contacts from years as mayor and he missed helping people as well.  He saw an advertisement for a soil conservationist position in the local newspaper and decided to apply.  Randy had previous dealings with NRCS having been a recipient of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for forestry some years ago and knew a bit about the mission of NRCS.  Randy was selected for the position and now works 3 days per week.  Randy finds it fascinating to see how NRCS “fixes erosion problems and helps farmers to improve their land”.  He does as much as he can to assist with the EQIP and to learn about other programs.

Working part time allows Randy and Janet to still enjoy their favorite hobby of RVing.  In the past year, they have enjoyed camping in Missouri, Louisiana, Florida and the Smokies.  As a former teacher, Boy Scout leader, judge, business owner, city leader and politician, devout Christian family man, and now NRCS ACES enrollee, Randy believes that God had a definite plan for him.  His love of people has come full circle and he believes the work he is doing is helping others to be better stewards of the land.

Read the lettering on Randy’s shirt – it says “I’d like to help you out” – that’s pretty much what Randy Kimble is about!
