Location: EPA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Job Description at the EPA: Ms. WhitseyJohnson supports the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) Direct Procurement Team where she reviews and analyzes request for procurements (Form 1900-37), Mentor-Protégé Agreements, and Subcontracting Plans.

Interesting projects or assignments she is working on:

She accepted her current position because of her strong interest in EPA’s mission and vision.  After her interview, she became more interested in the strategies used to include small businesses to help protect human health and the environment.  Ms. WhitseyJohnson’s EPA Monitor, Lamont Norwood says that “h’Enri has been instrumental in the success of EPA OSBP’s Direct Procurement Program.  For the past two years h’Enri has been essential in developing and enhancing the EPA’s Small Business Scorecard submission to U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).”  The SBA Scorecard is an assessment tool to (1) measure how well federal agencies reach their small business and socio-economic prime contracting and subcontracting goals, (2) provide accurate and transparent contracting data and (3) report agency-specific progress. The prime and subcontracting component goals include goals for small businesses, small business owned by women, small disadvantaged businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, and small business located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones). In addition, Mr. Norwood says that EPA has continuously received the grade of an A on the small business scorecard and Ms. WhitseyJohnson’s work on the scorecard submission has ensured that the office will continue its high level of achievement.  h’Enri has been a tremendous addition to our staff, and we look forward to working with her in the future.”

Prior experience and education: Prior to joining the SEE Program, Ms. WhitneyJohnson served as a political appointee in the Clinton Administration. She worked with the international trade staff to enact laws to promote, ensure, and protect equitable opportunities for United States businesses in import and export trade.  Prior to that appointment, she served as the legislative analyst to Congressman William S. Moorhead.  She is also a certified NASA STEM educator.

She holds a Master’s (IT) from the University of Maryland University College, a Master’s in Education from American University, and STEM Certification from Columbia University.  She has also performed Post Graduate work at Harvard, Yale, UCLA, University of Alabama, Seattle Pacific University, Ashland University, and Adam State University.

Ms. WhitseyJohnson’s outreach services consist of many volunteer assignments which include the International Itilima Education Foundation, OASIS, Caribbean Connection, and Southwest DC Civic Association.   In addition she enjoys traveling, reading, walking, music and theatre.

What she enjoys most about the SEE Program:

Ms. WhitseyJohnson views each new day at work as a delicacy – a day to strengthen her core knowledge, share information with colleagues and EPA constituents, and to interact with and learn from others.  She has always found NOWCC staff to be professional, approachable, and friendly.  In her opinion, for retirees who wish to re-enter/contribute their skills in today’s workforce, NOWCC is a wonderful retiree-friendly vehicle to use!
