National Older Worker Career Center (NOWCC), headquartered in Arlington, VA, was recently selected by The NonProfit Times as #1 in the “2014 and 2015 Best Nonprofits to Work For.”
Founded in 1997, NOWCC is a well-established bridge that helps connect experienced workers to meaningful positions in the public sector. NOWCC provides cost effective, flexible, and innovative experienced worker programs that help federal agencies fulfill their missions. The organization has built a culture that listens to and serves the needs of its customers, and engages the whole staff in creating the most effective ways to meet those needs. The result is top-of-the-line quality customer service and a fully engaged staff.
Conducted by Best Companies Group from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the nationwide review looked at various elements of nonprofit operation, including: leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits, and overall employee engagement. Nonprofits that entered the competition completed an extensive application, followed by 76 item on-line survey for every staff member. Over 10,000 staff completed the survey.
Leaders at nonprofits that topped the list of Best Nonprofits to Work For share common approaches, such as empowering employees and encouraging them to find their own creative solutions. NOWCC continues to learn from its customers and the experienced workers that it recruits, places and supports in two federal agencies. Its diverse staff is dedicated to helping the nation value experienced workers as an untapped national resource that can play a critical role in sustaining economic growth and development.
