Being Age 55 or Older is Good for The Environment! The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative / Office support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a grant-administered program through National Older Worker Career Center (NOWCC). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. The EPA provides a wonderful work atmosphere, and you'll be working side-by-side with EPA staff that are doing important work every day. Pay & Benefits: pay rate: $12.72/hr. This is the maximum amount budgeted through the grant to support this program. Benefits: paid health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid federal holidays, one personal day, and optional vision and dental insurance available.

Duties:

Provide sample log-in support and laboratory assistance to Houston EPA Lab Chemists and technical staff. Includes but is not limited to assistance in sample preparation areas and general lab support.

  • Receive, review and log-in environmental samples. 75%
  • Provide assistance in sample preparation labs. 10%
  • Receive deliveries for the lab. 5%
  • Relieve receptionists/security clerk when necessary. 5%
  • Other duties as assigned. 5%

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Analytical lab work OR BA/BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences or any related degree.

  • Experience required with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Copying Machine, Multiple Phone Lines, Scanner

Other:

  • Houston lab staff will provide necessary training.
  • Health Safety Training: Enrollee will perform lab related activities and will be required to complete Laboratory Safety Training and annual lab safety refresher training.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Training requirements do not have to be met prior to start.
  • Enrollee will spend time performing sample receiving, sample log-in, and sample disposal. May be involved with sample prep in various laboratories. Long term standing and some lifting is required. Efforts will include glassware washing.
  • Required Safety Gear: lab coat, safety goggles, safety glasses, apron.
