Patricia K Gaspar
SEE Program Enrollee, Patricia Gaspar, holds the title of Receptionist for the Office of the Regional Administrator for EPA Region 6 in Dallas, TX. However, this is not your run-of-the-mill receptionist position. Pat is actually the first contact for calls from the White House, U.S. Senators, Congressmen and other high ranking state and local leaders. It is a position requiring exceptional interpersonal skills, good judgment, and knowledge of a range of environmental areas, including air, complaints/compliance, hazardous waste, spill prevention, water quality standards, wetlands enforcement, emergency response, etc.
Since attending the University of Texas where she majored in Journalism, Ms. Gaspar’s career has included work as Senior Account Representative for Accountants Executive Search; Client Manager for Financial Additions; Marketing Consultant for Med Travelers; and Community Service Director for Sparkman Hillcrest. The well-honed interpersonal skills Ms. Gaspar developed as a result of her sales experience have been put to good use in the SEE Program. As Receptionist for the Office of the Regional Administrator, Ms. Gaspar is usually the first contact VIP’s have with EPA’s Dallas office, either by phone or in person. She also provides an attentive ear for citizens with problems, a buffer for those in a very busy office and a welcoming face on even the dreariest of days. She assists with correspondence, compiles the Weekly Report on the work being done in Region 6, maintains an up-to-date Travel/Leave Schedule, enters information into Travel Manager, assists in and arranges for conference facilities and the preparation of conference materials. Ms. Gaspar calls herself the “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer” for the Regional Administrator’s Office. And though she does fill up candy jars, stock Cokes, and place orders for food, those duties are only a tiny portion of her job. Among other tasks, Pat assists visitors with setting up Power Point presentations in the conference room’s wireless environment, as well as setting up Steve Johnson’s weekly conference call for Regional Administrator, Richard Green.
Larry Starfield, Deputy Regional Administrator, says of Pat and the SEE Program, “We at EPA are committed to the SEE program and are very pleased with the contributions SEE participants make to the important work being done in this Agency. A good example is Pat Gaspar, who is an absolutely essential member of the Regional Administrator's Front Office team. Pat has boundless energy, enthusiasm, and good humor. She is someone you can rely upon to help with whatever task needs to be done. Pat makes our time at work more efficient and more fun, and we are so happy to have her with us."
