Maria Rangel, a Level 3 SEE Enrollee, began working for the EPA San Diego Border Office in July 2010. Her duties include assisting with technical and administrative tasks such as responding to inquires from the public and government agencies, updating and maintaining databases, scheduling meetings, filing and maintaining office records and providing research for border related issues. Most importantly, she reviews and translates Border Program materials.
Ms. Rangel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Universidad Libre in Colombia and a Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation from University of California San Diego. Prior to joining the SEE Program, Ms. Rangel was a free-lance translator.
Outside of work, Ms. Rangel serves on the Board of Directors and volunteers for MomtoMadre.org, a nonprofit working with parents of children (ages zero to five) to promote literacy, family values, health and sciences. She is also a volunteer at Pomerado Hospital in San Diego. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, walking, reading and gardening.
Ms. Rangel enjoys her new position and is excited to learn new things while working with friendly and helpful EPA staff. Ms. Rangel states, “I am very grateful for having the opportunity to be in the SEE Program. I consider it a privilege and I am committed to do my best.“
